The best drive in Campania that everyone must check out is the road that runs along the Amalfi Coast. Popularly known only as the Amalfi Drive, or the Strada Statale 163, this road was initially constructed by the Romans. This is one of the most beautiful routes in all of Europe. Beginning from Sorrento and ending at Positano and taking you through the town of Amalfi, this scenic route is incredibly beautiful.

In between, you will find that the road becomes very narrow, so it is a good idea to have a smaller rental car with you while traversing this scenic route. You will find yourself driving through many quaint little villages along the route. For the significant part of this road, you will be amazed to see that the road has been carved right out of the side of the majestic coastal cliffs. This gives you some stunning views of the Tyrrhenian Sea on one side and the cliffs towering above on the other side.

The road also takes you through the Positano village, which is constructed on the other side of the hill. The village of Positano and the entire stretch of the Amalfi Drive are significant tourist attractions in the Campania region. There are many places to stay in the Positano Village for those who want to take a day trip to Capri afterward from Positano.

As you drive through Positano and into the town of Amalfi, be careful as you have to navigate your way with other cars coming the other way with a very small margin in between. The distance of this route is only 80 kilometres, but it makes takes up to seven hours during the peak tourist season as this is a very popular driving route.
